How did the two of you meet?
Hugo and I met when I was 17, he was 18 at Tim Horton’s on Caledonia and Orfus.
Tell us about your favorite date together.
We always have a good time together no matter what we do, but our road trip to Ohio to watch a UFC event was probably one of the best.
How long have you been together ?
We have been together for 7 years.
What is your favorite thing about one another?
I love the way Hugo can make me laugh at any moment, even when its at my expense.
My favorite thing about Melanie is her random silliness that makes me laugh.
How did he propose?
We went out for dinner to Alice Fazoolis which I thought was weird because its our “special occasion” restaurant. As we are waiting for our dinner to be served, he says we need to talk and he continues by handing me a card that is written completely in Portuguese telling me that he needs to go back to Portugal and go to the army. At this point, all sorts of things are running through my head – “I’m going to have to move to Portugal!” “I just started a new job!” “What am I going to do?!” I kept asking if he was serious and made him promise and say ‘swear’, when he wouldn’t I knew something was up and he handed me a chocolate, a Kinder Surprise Egg. At that moment I was pretty sure what was going on, I cracked open the egg, opened my ‘”toy” and in it was the ring on a cotton pillow and instructions that read “Marry Me?”. This whole exchange was a matter of minutes but felt like forever, in our little booth at Alice Fazoolis and no one around us knew what happened, so it was the perfect private moment in a public place.
