How did the two of you meet?
We met at Mike’s fathers house. Vera is a friend of Mike’s brother and was hanging out in a group at Mike’s house.
Mike was doing some work outside when his brother asked him if he wanted to join some of the group for dinner.
So, we went out to a group dinner and hit it off and the rest is history.
How long have you been together ?
We have been together for three years this coming May.
Tell us about your favorite date together
Our favourite date was in the first months of our relationship. We were meeting downtown at the Eaton’s Center to do some shopping and get a bite to eat. While we were headed down, both coming from different places, we ran into an unforeseeable problem. The subway was unable to get us to our station due to complications. Vera was coming from the green line so she was able to get fairly close to our meeting spot whereas Mike took a slightly slower approach. He was coming south on the yellow line and got blocked a lot sooner so he jumped out and walked/ran the rest of the way. Needless to say, he lost the race and was 45 minutes late and afraid that he messed up a potentially great relationship. Luckily enough for him, there was a book store that Vera lost herself in and she was none the wiser to the time that passed; or so he thought. This was our favourite date because even though it started off rocky, it turned out to be a day full of new experiences, discoveries and beginnings.
What is your favorite thing about one another?
My favourite thing about Mike is his selfless and kind heart. He always seems to understand me and put everyone else’s needs before his own. He knows what I want or need before I have to say or do anything. He’s truly amazing because he always says or does the right thing. There isn’t anyone in this world that can make me smile the way he does, especially, when I don’t feel like it. His hugs makes me warm inside and his patience and understanding makes me truly happy and glad to be by his side. He knows my heart like no other; he understands my soul like no one else; and most importantly, he feels my emotions through his own heart and mind. I love Mike with all of my heart, just as he shows me and tells me all the time.
My favourite thing about Vera is her unwavering honesty and straight to the point personality. Vera says what she thinks the majority of the time and to me that is very admirable. Knowing she says what she feels makes me feel the love she has for me. She is able to turn a day filled with sadness and uncertainty into one of happiness and sureness just by saying what she is feeling. You always know how she is feeling because she lets you know truthfully whats on her mind. If everyone would be able to convey their feelings and opinions like Vera, the state of the world would be full of useful truths instead of useless lies. I am blessed to have her in my life.
How did he propose?
I had just finished working (what seemed to be the longest day) and decided to go to Mike’s place afterwards. He left the door unlocked and I walked into the most romantic setting of my life. There were candles and roses everywhere. The walls were numbered and there was something meaningful to our relationship placed right underneath the number. He had left instructions for me to know what to do. I walked through each numbered station and waited. He had prepared a speech for each station. He had written nine different speeches, with a theme for each one of them. In one station, he even baked my favorite cookies and had me eat them, while he read to me. I didn’t know if I should cry or keep eating. I could hear the trembling in his voice. I had thought to myself, “wow, he’s so romantic.” I didn’t even realize that he was about to purpose and then the tenth and last speech began. He had a curtain up and he was hiding in that room. I opened the curtain and there was Michael kneeling on one knee with his final speech that led to the most important question of our lives. He began to ask me and I jumped up and down with excitement and happiness. It was the most touching and romantic moment in my life.
