WEDDING ADVICE – Do Not Follow Trends Follow Your Heart

We get it. Looking at the neighbors lawn and wishing ours was that green. It happens all of the time. We do it everyday. But in reality some things work for some and not for others. It has been this way since caveman number one had a wheel that rolled faster and farther than caveman number two’s. Planning your wedding is just the same. Except you don’t need two sticks to make a fire.

“That looks so cool” is something you will say on many times in many situations when you are planning your wedding. But be very careful that it is not a trend but actually something that says something about the two of you. If you meet at an ice cream parlor (if that still happens) and would like to take a few photographs there. THAT WORKS. But if you see and image on Pinterest from Texas with a bride and groom riding a bull on a farm with cowboy hats, that may not work if you live in Toronto and have zero interest in bulls.

Everyone person and everyone couple has something that makes them them. It could be that everyday you share a coffee from Starbucks. Why not make that happen on your wedding day. You could like reading together at a certain park under a certain tree. THAT WORKS. What if you both are into vintage clothing. Your wedding day attire can and should reflect that. These may seem like trends to some but it means something to the both of you. It would make for looking back on your wedding images with fondness.

As a photographer we love to find a story to tell with our images. We had a bride once wear sneakers on her wedding day, not just for the reception for the whole day and night. She mentioned it before the day to us and we thought she was following a trend. Then we asked why. When she was younger she would say to her favorite aunt that she would wear running shoes on her wedding day. This aunt passed away and she wore them in honor of her. That’s a really good reason and a story to tell forever. Weddings are about forever.
